The above article talks of the impact social media has on today’s youth and how it affects modern day standards, specifically in relationships and beauty section.
Parents displeased by their children being on social media receive the opinion stated in this article- It is not an addiction but a faze, a process necessary for teenagers to discover themselves, parents should give their children more freedom as they are smart enough to make the right choices and learn from the wrong ones.
In addition the article also writes about the legal issues revolving social media, providing figures such as 54% of youths in a survey being arrested for sending/receiving sexual messages. At the start of the article it is noted that many of these teens live double lives, for example one girl would post pictures of her and her boyfriend on a piano leading you to believe her life to be a certain way, however the piano belongs to the school, the way she presents herself on S.M contrasts the life she lives.
On one hand I agree that social media is like other inventions of the past such as the TV, something in which young people use to discover themselves and entertain themselves, the comparison between S.M and television is made due to parents of kids during the rise of TV, were worried about how their children were being affected by the box of images just as modern parents are.
on the other hand there are consequential actions that can be made on Social media, to prevent this young people need parental guidance and observation, moreover laws should be in place and enforced if broken, for the safety of youths.
Meme

The article states that memes are ideas which emerge from the brain and mutate into various forms, feeding off other ideas. I believe many of the texts written in the article to be true as people gain inspiration from others, greatly respected people found their ideas from other sources such as the drawing of a box in the air in Pulp Fiction which was inspired by a cartoon and Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet being similar to the Greek myth about Pyramus and Thisbe who like Romeo and Juliet couldn’t be together due to their families and both died tragically in the end, the classic Shakespeare tale has also manifested many re-works in various countries for example the anime version in Japan.
I think a meme is creativity without physical form, a way of expression, complex communication and shared ideas, through social media, television, movies, and music, memes have been able to travel much faster and grow larger, but once forgotten a meme dies. Similarly humans that have long passed away still live through memes and memories; Leonardo Da Vince’s paintings for example and Edvard Munch and the Scream.
