Wednesday 26th September 2018 – Research and deciding on a charity.
This lesson I was introduced to the different types of advertising such as shock, humor, informative and sexual appeal; these messages are used to keep the audiences attention while advertising a product or organization.
I looked at several charities and decided on the three in which i wanted to research- i chose Young Minds, Scope equality for disabled people and Marine Conservation Society.
The charity i want to focus on is Marine Conservation Society because i found their advertisements intriguing. MCS would illustrate people with straws in their nose or plastic bags in their mouths creating a sense of disgust and horror to demonstrate why they wish to keep the oceans clean
Monday 1st October 2018- Research and developing Campaign.
This lesson I watched several adverts about dog rescue, pollution and child abuse, I used these videos to help me develop campaign ideas looked at slogans for slogan ideas, I found completing this relatively simple and enjoyed the brain storming process. Afterwards I used power point to create logos, I was surprise at how much could be done without a software like Photoshop, I put pictures together, flipped them when necessary, removed the background and created complex objects from simple shapes like circles; I was able to create three different logos that relate to the protection of the ocean and reduction of littering.
Finally I completed my server using power point, I found thinking of questions a bit tricky but used a charity questionnaire website to help.
While working on my campaign I struggled most with thinking of ways to relate my work to young people, I thought of what 16 – 24 year-old enjoy doing and how it can be linked with recycling.
Wednesday 10th October- creating presentation
This lesson I worked on my presentation, I decided to add a third campaign in the case I am not able to complete one of the other two. Although I’m using info graphic I’m not yet comfortable with the layout. I transported all my research from my first presentation into another using mainly pictures.
Monday 15th October – Completing my Presentation
Today I finished my presentation and am ready to pitch it, I looked through a check list to make sure all the relative content are in the slides. I’m most worried about keeping the audiences attention because i have a lot of slides, next time i need to remember to keep the slides at 15.
tuesday 16th October- creating my screenplay
Today I wrote the screenplay for my advert campaign – Menu which is about a Dinner who is served paper food and litter, however their meal is not a surprise and they enjoy eating, afterwards I created a treatment for my project. I found these tasks relatively simple because I have done similar things in the past.
Monday 29th-
Today I presented my work. At first I was worried that I might forget my points or that there are too many slides and my audience would loose interest, however I felt that I was clear and spoke of many possible obstacles and solutions. At the end of the presentation there weren’t many questions asked of me. Unlike in previous events I didn’t read every paragraph and sentence, instead I used mainly pictures which steered me away from talking too much.
Tuesday 30th
Today I created the treatment for menu, I used the format given to me last year which really helped. Soon after completing the treatment I wrote the screenplay for Litter Flu, I was surprised to see how short it was and that I didn’t need any dialogue. I reviewed the screenplay to see what I could change but am satisfied with it at the moment.
Monday 5th November
I used this lesson to create the treatment for litter flu and draw a storyboard for both screenplays. I planned how the shots would come about and how to achieve certain effects with the skills I have. I also thought about how each shot will affect the atmosphere and weather the shot is achievable. I decided to film in the college and make it look like certain scenes, I have recruited actors from outside the college and planned filming days.
Monday 12th November
Today I looked back at work I need to do, I worked on Unit 11 and searched for a job I would apply for, wrote a cover letter/ personal statement, highlighted the things I can and can’t do and took a screenshot of myself applying for it.
I found it slightly complicated to merge a cover letter and personal statement, for help I looked at examples of the two and used it as a template, I also used my CV to help me write about my skills and experiences.
Wednesday 14th November 2018- Filming day
Today I filmed both menu and Litter flu, filming progressed positively which allowed me to have enough material to work on, I knew that I would need to film certain ways to achieve effects and took into consideration angles, however I should have payed more attention to the focus of the camera and lighting to achieve a better quality video. Although time was short the quality wasn’t too low and everything was filmed, I brought in equipment to set up the scene; the candle and lighter were too much of a safety hazard so it was decided by the crew and I that it should be left not lit.
Monday 19th November 2018- editing
Today I edited Menu which wasn’t too difficult, I learned new skills and reminded myself of techniques I had forgotten such as changing sound, adding effects and applying audio transitions. I also started editing Litter Flu which helped me remember how to specifically edit sound.
